Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance
At Wade Deacon students are provided with high quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) which prepares them for successful transitions into further education, apprenticeships and employment.
Careers education and labour market information (LMI) is embedded throughout the curriculum through the use of U-Explore. All students, parent/guardians and staff can access this innovative online resource 24/7.
Students in Year 7 undertake site visits to several employer sites, including Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. In PSHE students explore more about themselves with a focus on preparing for the future. Careers education is embedded through the curriculum using U-Explore to focus on how different subjects link with jobs.
The focus is on GCSE subject options for Year 8. All students receive support either one-to-one or in groups with an independent careers guidance professional to help them consider their choices and motivations. Students attend GCSE options assemblies to introduce them to each subject and all students and parent/guardians are invited to attend the GCSE options evening.
Year 9 students take part in CV building workshops which introduces them to job applications and interview skills. Students also complete enterprise activities to introduce and encourage entrepreneurship.
Students are immersed in the world of work through a two week work experience placement which draws on the skills they have learn in Years 7-9. Students also attend college taster days to explore further education and apprenticeships.
In their final year, all students have a one-to-one interview with a careers guidance professional to consider their next steps and long term career goals. Students meet employers, apprenticeship providers and further and higher education institutions at the school careers fair. Students also visit local college campuses to experience different subject departments.
Mersey Interactive is a single access point that brings together all of the careers information, advice and guidance available in Halton and the Liverpool City Region.
This innovative, independent online resource is made available to all Wade Deacon students, parent/guardians and staff. U-Explore engages students in careers through its vibrant and intuitive design and is packed full of media content.
Halton Education Business Partnership (EBP) delivers a comprehensive CEIAG service in school. All students can access one-to-one careers guidance whenever it’s needed. Halton EBP also coordinates the work experience programme for Year 10 students.
National Careers Service
The National Careers Service website provides careers advice and information on a wide range of jobs, training course resources and funding. It is suitable for all ages.
Online Government portal to search for and apply to all levels of apprenticeship.
The Plotr careers advice game works through several stages to match students to careers. Perfect for students who don’t yet know what they want to do in life and need inspiration.
